This classic hike connects the two most beautiful valleys of the Albanian Alps. Starting from Theth, the trail climbs through beech forests and alpine meadows toward Qafa e Valbonës Pass (1,898 m), offering breathtaking views over both valleys. The descent follows an old shepherds’ path through forests and the village of Rragam, before continuing along the clear waters of the Valbona River to reach the guesthouse — a peaceful end to a memorable mountain day.
The trail starts in the Valbona Valley (950 m) and passes through the small mountain village of Kukaj (1,100 m). After a short stretch on a rough road, the path climbs steadily through alpine meadows toward a shepherd’s hut at 1,700 m - a perfect spot to rest and enjoy a coffee with a view. The hike continues up to the Montenegro border (2,100 m), where wide, open panoramas of the Albanian Alps unfold before returning along the same trail.
From Valbona, the trail climbs toward Qafa e Borit (1,820 m) and reaches its highest point at Qafa e Pejës (2,033 m), on the border between Albania and Montenegro. The route briefly crosses Montenegrin territory before descending back into Albania, passing near the Shpella e Akullit (Ice Cave). The descent follows a stream and later a forest path until reaching the remote village of Çerem (1,260 m), where we stay in a traditional guesthouse without electricity or mobile connection - a peaceful place surrounded by pure nature.
From Çerem (1,260 m), the trail climbs gently toward the shepherds’ village of Dobërdol (1,800 m). Here, families spend the summer with their livestock, living without electricity or phone connection but offering warm hospitality and fresh homemade dairy products. The route passes briefly through Montenegrin forest before returning to Albania, crossing alpine meadows dotted with shepherds’ huts. Along the way, hikers can enjoy local treats such as traditional pie, blueberry.
From Dobërdol (1,800 m), the trail leads toward Sylbica, reaching about 1,955 m before turning left toward the Kosovo border. The path continues across rolling hills and stone plains, passing the scenic Lake Zemër, and then ascends to Gjeravica (2,646 m) — the highest peak in Kosovo. On the way down, we walk near Lake Gjeravica, surrounded by dramatic alpine scenery, before returning to Gacafer Guesthouse for a warm meal and an overnight stay in the heart of the mountains.
Gacafer – Milishevc via the Three-Border Peak From Gacafer Guesthouse, we ascend toward the Three-Border Peak (2,366 m), where the borders of Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro meet. From the summit, the trail continues along the scenic ridge that forms the border between Kosovo and Montenegro, offering wide panoramic views over the surrounding mountains.
We then pass the Pass of Hajna (2,250 m), located on the left side of Mariashi Mountain, and descend toward Roshkodol. From there, we follow a mountain road leading to Miliševc (1,556 m), a small alpine settlement where the day’s hike ends.
Our journey continues through magnificent alpine panoramas, where we also have the chance to pick wild blueberriesalong the way. The trail gradually descends toward Babino Polje (1,500 m), a highland area inhabited mostly by shepherds and surrounded by wide green pastures. From Babino Polje, we take a bus transfer to Vuthaj, where we stay overnight in a welcoming guesthouse - a perfect place to rest after days spent in the wild beauty of the mountains.
From Vuthaj, we head to Gerbaja Valley, starting our hike near the famous House of Alpinists. The trail passes through oak forests and alpine meadows before climbing to Trojan Peak (1,855 m), offering fairytale views over the Karafil and Langoj mountains. We then follow the ridge to Vajusha Peak (2,005 m), on the border with Albania, before descending back to Vuthaj for an overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Theth, located between 750 and 950 m in one of the most remote valleys of northern Albania, is surrounded by dramatic peaks and untouched nature. Today we take easy hikes around the village, visiting the Kulla e Ngujimit (Lock-In Tower), the Theth Waterfall, and the Canyon of Nderlysa. In the evening, we return to Tirana for accommodation.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport or continue your journey independently.
Farewell and end of services.
